Talent Transfer: Christie Jenkins
High achiever is one way you could describe Christie Jenkins; dux of her high school, double degree in Economics and Chinese with distinction, and a world-class athlete in three different sports – Trampolining, Beach Volleyball and CrossFit!
Christie started her sporting career at the age of five, doing Trampoline Gymnastics at Cheltenham Youth Club. Her best results include:
Australian National Champion for 12 years
Ranked in the top 10 in the world
Bronze at the Youth Olympics
After retiring from trampoline at the beginning of 2011, Christie was on the search for her next sporting challenge. Her parents played social beach volleyball and she thought she would give it ago, but with the intention to again represent Australia. It is not a natural progression from Trampoline to Beach Volleyball, but the two key skills Christie took was her ability to jump and her mental toughness.
By the end of 2016 Christie and her playing partner we the top ranked team on the Australian tour, they won multiple national level events and finished in 9th place at the Asian Championships.
Christie has also had some remarkable results with CrossFit. Her team placed 11th at the CrossFit Games, she also complete at the Pacific Regional Champions in a team and as an individual she placed 11th.
CrossFit is now on the backburner and its full steam ahead with beach volleyball for Christie. Soon she will be heading off to Europe for the competitive summer season. Future aspirations for Christie include the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2020 Olympic Games.
