Jacqui Weatherill awarded for her service to gymnastics

Former Gymnastics Australia President, Jacqui Weatherill was presented with the Bronze Recognition award by the International Gymnastics Federation (the FIG) at its 83rd Congress held in Turkey for her service as the Oceania representative on the FIG Council for the 2017 – 2021 cycle.

Weatherill is the current Chair of the FIG Gender Equality Commission, a role she has held since 2019. As the Chair, the Commission hosted an inaugural forum to encourage female leadership in gymnastics that saw 40 women, from all over the world come together with a common goal of furthering their career in the sport and advocating for more gender equality.

During her tenure as President of Gymnastics Australia (2014-2016), Weatherill’s focus was on governance and restructuring the high performance pathway for our athletes.

Denis Mowbray, Gymnastics New Zealand Board Member will now move into the role as Oceania Representative on the FIG Council for the 2022-2024 cycle after being elected by the Oceania federations present in Turkey.

Also at the congress, the Guam Gymnastics Federation (GGF) was granted definitive membership of the FIG. As a member of the Oceania Gymnastics Union, Gymnastics Australia has provided help and guidance to support the Federation be formally recognised by the FIG.
