Australia Wins 2019 Trans-Tasman Cup
The 2019 Trans-Tasman Cup battle between Australia and New Zealand took place at Melbourne Arena at the Australian Gymnastics Championships.
In the Individual Trampoline competition, Australian athlete and 2019 Australian Champion, Claire Arthur was the best performer with a score of 54.170. Carina Hagarty was Team Australia’s second female to score over 50.000 which helped put them ahead. New Zealand’s top score was from Halle Rankin Hastie who was able to receive a 49.155.
Moving on to the male Individual Trampoline, there was clear dominance from Australia’s Liam Christie, Ty Swadling and Aiden Thomas who scored 57.380, 56.955 and 55.295 respectively. Although, New Zealand wouldn’t be going down without a fight with their top three; Nathan Monkton, Brodie Miller and Jakarta Klebert all putting in scores of above 50.000.
The Double Mini Trampoline competition was an exciting one. It was Queensland’s Carina Hagarty who made sure her team would be claiming the number one spot with a score a 68.600 and not too far behind her was Koralee Catlett with a score of 67.400. New Zealand’s Brooke Teear came away with an awesome score for her country with a 68.400.
In the male Double Mini Trampoline, Liam Christie was again the best out on the competition floor, he finished with a score of 73.900. While team mates Ryan Hatfield and Owen Gilbert were right there with him with scores of 73.200 and 70.700. For New Zealand, Campbell Robertson (71.400), Lachlan Smith (70.300) and Nathan Monkton (70.100) were the best performers.
It was a great contest between the rivals but it was Team Australia who came out the overall winners and claimed the 2019 Trans-Tasman Cup.
Australia’s total Trampoline score was 323.185 and Double Mini Trampoline was 420.800.
New Zealand’s total Trampoline score was 295.985 and Double Mini Trampoline was 411.400.
