MAG World Challenge Cup kicks off in Paris

The five Australian Male Artistic Gymnasts have made a scintillating start to their World Challenge Cup series, with a series of strong performances in Paris this weekend.

Debutant Vedant Sawant was the star of the show, qualifying for the Pommel Horse final on Sunday where he scored an impressive 14.250, missing the medal podium by the narrowest of margins. Vedant was just 0.100 away from a Bronze Medal, an incredible result for his first World Challenge Cup competition. 

Across the other apparatus’, recently announced World Championship team member Heath Thorpe returned to international competition with a 13.550 on Floor, placing him in 14th place. Victorian Marcus Casamento took to the floor as well, scoring 12.550. Marcus was also the top scorer for the Australian men on Parallel Bars, with a score of 11.150. 

Kipp Smith scored 13.300 on Horizontal Bar, seeing him finish in 12th place overall, and was the 3rd reserve for the final. 

The squad will now fly to Szombathely, Hungary, where they will compete from 30 September to 2 October.
