MAG World Championship Squad Announced

Five of Australia’s strongest Male Artistic Gymnasts have been selected to compete in October’s MAG World Championships in Liverpool.

Four of the team will be familiar faces for Australians who sat down to watch the gymnastics at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with James Bacueti (ACT), Tyson Bull (VIC), Mitchell Morgans (QLD) and Clay Stephens (SA) set to pull on the green and gold again.

The quartet will be joined by New South Wales’ Heath Thorpe, who was the travelling emergency for the Games in Birmingham earlier this year.

Thorpe will begin his international competition this weekend when he competes in the first leg of the MAG World Challenge Cup in Paris, before heading to Hungary and Türkiye in subsequent weeks.

Bacueti, Morgans and Stephens have resumed their training at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, following their well-earned breaks after the Commonwealth Games, whilst Bull has recommenced his training in his home city of Melbourne.

Queensland’s David Tanner will be the travelling reserve for the squad, whilst Marcus Casamento from Victoria will also be available as a non-travelling reserve.

The squad will be accompanied by the coaching trio of Dion Pocklington, Yusuf Topari and Sean Wilson.
