MANAGING INCLUSION IN GYMNASTICS (MIG)

The MIG resource focuses on how we can be inclusive in gymnastics.  The resource will provide gymnastic's community members with awareness of managing inclusion, including for Administrators, all Coaches and Officials. The resource captures the philosophy of Gymnastics Australia in seeking to put within reach of every individual an experience of gymnastics that is enjoyable, safe and inclusive.

Costs involved to undertake the MIG are as follows:
Members of Gymnastics Australia (current Technical Members) - Certification $33 (inc GST)

Gymnastics Australia Technical Members, current and non-current, can log on using their User ID and Date of Birth.  No payment is required to browse the resource for awareness, however payment is required if you wish to seek certification and have updating points awarded.

The MIG is a compulsory renewal requirement for Members who have completed the MRC in the previous year and are in at least their third year of membership.  The MIG is not compulsory for Members who are required to complete Managing the Risks of Coaching.

GYMSkools

Gymnastics Australia is pleased to announce the launch of GYMSkools - an exciting new 'gymnastics-in-schools program' for affiliated clubs and coaches.

What is GYMSkools?
GYMSkools is an online resource designed to assist affiliated clubs and coaches establish, administer, deliver and maintain a sustainable gymnastics-in-schools program.

The GYMSkools resource includes:
  • useful templates and sample documents to assist in establishing, administering and maintaining a gymnastics-in-schools program
  • an innovative online Lesson Plan Builder (LPB), that progressively builds safe and challenging gymnastics-in-schools lessons, drawing from over 1000 pre-selected games, activities and skills, including the ability to print and save your completed lesson plans for record keeping and future use
  • A4 sized activity cards that can be printed for use within the program
  • useful templates and sample documents to assist in establishing, administering and maintaining a gymnastics-in-schools program

Access to all GYMSkools features listed above is a Benefit of Membership
COMPLIMENTARY access to all components of the GYMSkools resource has been provided to all clubs who are currently rated at STAR 3 or above within the Club 10 quality assurance program. Accredited coaches with a relationship to all such clubs will also be provided with complimentary access to all components of the resource.

Clubs rated at Star 1 and Star 2 may purchase an annual subscription to the GYMSkools LPB for $33 and coaches not provided with complimentary access (as listed above) may also purchase a yearly subscription to the GYMSkools LPB with prices starting at $33 for accredited coaches/members and $110 for non-members (ie teachers).

Managing the Risks of Coaching (MRC) 

The MRC resource focuses on how we can identify and manage risk. A blend of common sense along with strategic actions can help reduce the likelihood of litigation and above all ensure that gymnastics is a fun, safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Here are some reasons why you should undertake this resource:

  • Great awareness of your role in managing risks associated with coaching gymnastics

  • Reduces the likelihood of injury/damage to your athlete and others
  • Undertake now and enjoy the Member discount

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR BEGINNER COACHES:-
The Coaching and Officiating Unit of the ASC has developed a series of web pages aimed at 'grass roots' coaches and officials. The web pages, entitled 'Tools and Tips for New Coaches and Officials' are a key part of the ASC's strategy to engage with and provide greater assistance to community level coaches and officials.

Tips for Coaching Athletes with a Disability

ASC GENERAL PRINCIPLES COACHING COURSE

The Australian Sports Commission is pleased to announce the launch of a new online course for coaches.

The Beginning Coaching General Principles online course has been developed to assist new coaches improve their basic coaching skills, in particular, those coaches working with children.

About the course

The course contains five modules, covering a range of general coaching topics, including the role and responsibilities expected of a coach, planning, safety, working with parents, communication, group management and inclusive coaching practices when working with people with a disability or special population groups.

The course takes approximately 6 hours to complete with assessment included at the end of each module.

How to access the course

The Beginning Coaching General Principles course is available from the Australian Sports Commission’s new online learning portal. Go to: https://learning.ausport.gov.au for more information on the course, and to enroll.

Please note: Beginner gymnastics coaches are encouraged to undertake this training; however this is NOT the course that currently needs to be undertaken to complete the Level One Gymnastics Accreditation. Be aware that the titles of the courses are very similar. Coaches who complete the ASC Beginning Coaching General Principles online course will be eligible for 3 UPD points.

ASCA LEVEL 1 COACH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The Australian Strength and Conditioning Association, is the professional development body for Strength and Conditioning Coaches in Australia, representing over 3000 Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coaches involved in coaching athletes and teams at all levels of participation from club through to Olympic and Professional Sports.

The ASCA Coach accreditation is the only Strength and Conditioning Coaching Course recognised by the Australian Sports Commission through the National Coach Accreditation Scheme and is recognised internationally as an industry leader via international affiliates in ASIA and New Zealand.

The Level 1 ASCA Strength and Conditioning Coaching Course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to understand, apply and design programs including basic training principles and variables to physically prepare beginner level athletes to improve their sports performance

Learn how to:
o Combine various training variables for sports performance
o Modify training programs to suit the psychological development of the athlete.
o Create a more effective teaching strategy
o Organise, teach, supervise, and provide feedback on basic speed, strength, endurance and flexibility development drills.
o Describe common technical faults and their implications from the Level 1 Strength exercise lift.
o Design a basic 2-3 day/week 4-8 week basic periodised program for beginner level athletes using all training modalities.
o Employ a range of field tests to assess an athlete's physical capabilities
o Implement injury prevention, management and rehabilitation procedures and apply basic first aid for basic sports injuries.
o Manage and implement a recovery program
o Identify and understand the effect of nutrition and commonly used drugs on sports performance.

The ASCA aims to facilitate professional development of persons involved in the physical preparation of an athlete by "bridging the gap between sports science and the practical application".
