GA
FINDS 'GREEN' IN SEARCH OF GOLD
Gymnastics Australia has made an early start on its' promise to
be a recognised contributor to current environment issues, as committed
in the 2009-2012 Strategic Plan.
The
realisation of this commitment commenced at the 2008 MAG & WAG
Australian Championships and Olympic Trials, where considerable
finite resources were managed to minimise the impact on the environment.
The weighted system used to stabilise and secure various apparatus
requires approximately 5,000 litres of water.
GA
determined to source recycled grey water, hence removing the unnecessary
consumption of fresh drinking water. In addition, this water, almost
the entire 5,000 litres, is recycled onsite at Vodafone Arena at
the conclusion of the Australian MAG and WAG Championships.
These
efforts under line GAs commitment to gymnastics being an important
and recognised contributor to current environment and social issues.
THE PASSING OF A RUSSIAN OLYMPIC GYMNAST
Boris Shakhlin, who won a record six individual Olympic gymnastics
men's gold medals, has died, aged 76. Russian-born Shakhlin won 13
medals for the Soviet Union at three Olympics, including the all-around
men's gold at the 1960 Games.
