Online Course Troubleshooting

Here are our top tips to help you get up and running with the online courses available through our Learning Management System (LMS).

We know that technical issues while completing an online course can be frustrating. There are a number of things that you can do to ensure you have the best experience possible with the online courses.

1. Use a recommended browser

We highly recommend using Google Chrome to access the online courses. If you are completing a v3.1 course (look in the name of the course for the version), then you can also use Safari and Firefox. We do see problems occur when using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, so these two browsers aren’t recommended.

2. Enable pop-ups in your browser

Almost all of the courses will open in a pop-up window, so enabling pop-ups in your browser is essential! Thankfully it’s quick and easy – here’s our quick guide on enabling pop-ups in Chrome and Safari.

3. Use a desktop or laptop computer

While the version 3.1 courses can be accessed on a mobile device, the version 2 and earlier courses require a computer or laptop to run properly. And if you’re having problems with any course, we definitely recommend switching to a computer or laptop if you’ve been using a mobile device.

4. Poor internet connection / closing the ‘Content is running’ window

When you launch a course, the LMS screen will go grey with a ‘Content is Running’ message. This screen needs to stay open so that your progress can be recorded; if the window is closed or navigated away from, the connection between the LMS and the course is lost and progress won’t be recorded. If the internet connection is interrupted, it’s the same as closing the ‘Content is Running’ LMS window – the connection between the LMS and the course is lost.

5. Enable Flash (for version 1 and 2 courses)

If you’re completing a version 1 or 2 course (the version is in the course name on your LMS dashboard), you’ll need to enable Flash to run on the LMS. It sounds complicated but it’s really easy when you know how! Here’s our quick guide for enabling Flash in Chrome.

6. I can’t click on the answers in the quizzes!

Sometimes a quiz can ‘lock’, which will mostly occur if you visit the results or combined results page before completing the quiz. You won’t be able to click on any of the answers, but you can click the Next and Previous buttons. For any locked quizzes, click the Next button until you get to the results page, and then click the ‘Retry Quiz’ button. The quiz will unlock and you will be able to complete it.

7. When I open the course, it won’t load

This one is rare, but if when you open the course it comes up blank in the pop-up window and won’t load, then you may need to clear your browser cache. The quickest and easiest way of fixing this problem is to open an ‘incognito’ window in Chrome (Ctrl + Shift + N on a windows computer, Command + Shift + N on a mac). Log in to the LMS in the incognito window and try opening the course again.

8. Save your quiz results and you work through the course

If all else fails, we definitely recommend clicking the ‘Print Results’ button on any completed quizzes and saving these. That way, if your progress isn’t saved correctly in the LMS, you can send the results to Gymnastics Australia and we’ll help you out.
