State Government and Gymnastics provides a Ticket to Play
Despite a turbulent year for sport around the country in 2020, Gymnastics has been a popular choice for children of all ages with the sport ranking in the top three in the Tasmanian Government’s Ticket to Play program with nearly 400 vouchers redeemed last year.
The pandemic saw more than 90% of operations impacted in the first quarter of last year due to lockdowns and restrictions, however upon returning to gyms around the state, Gymnastics ranked third with participants behind Soccer and Australian Rules Football.
Aimed at assisting families with the costs of participating in club sport for children aged 5-18 years of age, the initiative to provided opportunities to more than 10,000 individuals in 2020.
With a strong focus on building the foundations of an active lifestyle, Gymnastics provides the fundamental movement skills that can lead into any sport in the future.
Working closely with the Tasmanian Government to ensure gymnastics is offered to the community, Gymnastics Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Bradley Low said the number of vouchers redeemed for Gymnastics were a fantastic result for 2020.
“Ticket to Play is such an important program for our sport to be part of, especially during the challenging times faced over the last 12 months.” Mr. Low said.
“Sport is a critical tool in terms of social and physical development, as well and long-term health.
“Being part of the program is an important step for us as an organisation in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate regardless of their economic status and family income.
“Gymnastics Tasmania and our affiliated clubs are grateful to the Tasmanian Government for their ongoing support of the Ticket to Play program and we look forward to continuing to work together to grow participation and an active and healthy Tasmania.”
The Ticket to Play voucher program, specific designed to help minimize registration club fees, was extended for 2021 with applications open until the end of March.
