New avenue for youth's voice established

Gymnastics Australia has today called for nominations for its Youth Advisory Panel, an exciting new initiative that will ensure our younger members have a voice in the way the sport is run.

Chaired by former High Performance athlete and member of the Gymnastics Australia Integrity Committee, Alexandra Eade, the Panel will act as ambassadors and use their platform to contribute to promoting the sport.

Speaking about the establishment of the Panel, Gymnastics Australia CEO, Kitty Chiller AM, said the Youth Advisory Panel provides a unique opportunity for the national governing body to be directed by the young members of our community.

“We want to ensure young people are acknowledged, engaged and empowered during their time in our sport. This was reinforced in the Change the Routine report, released earlier this year,” said Chiller.

“Through the establishment of the Youth Advisory Panel, we want to embed a culture that encourages open, two-way communication with participants of all ages and at all levels of the sport.”

Alexandra Eade said it was exciting opportunity for young people to use their own personal experiences to provide a unique and different view on the topics that most impact them.

“This is also a chance for our young members to build their leadership skills as well as have a voice on the future direction of the sport,” said Eade.

Gymnastics Australia is also calling for nominations from current and past athletes to join the refreshed Athletes’ Commission.

The Gymnastics Australia Athletes’ Commission is an athlete-led group, representative of current or former athletes whose purpose is to promote open communication with and ensure the perspective and expertise of High Performance athletes are considered at all times.

Nominations for both the Youth Advisory Panel and the Athletes Commission close on Monday 8 November 2021.
