The 2020 Aerobics National Training Camp took place over the weekend of 1-2 February, with 36 of Australia’s best aerobics athletes attending the camp held at Aerodynamix Gymnastics in Victoria. Supported by 14 coaches, athletes participated in skills workshops, and a dance choreography session led by guest presenter Marian Kolev as well as being provided with vital feedback from 6 FIG brevet judges following the first World Championships (WCH) and World Age Group Competition (WAGC) trial.

Following on from the trial on Sunday morning, all athletes received valuable feedback from Australia’s best Aerobics judges, feedback that they can take away and implement at their home gyms focusing on how they can improve their artistry, execution and difficulty elements to get the most out of their routines in the lead up to the second trial for WCH/WAGC selection – thank you to our wonderful judges for their valuable contribution to the Camp.

Gymnastics Australia (GA) was excited to bring out guest presenter Marian Kolev to work with the athletes and coaches and provide fresh ideas on how to improve their skills. As an aerobics gymnast, Marian had a successful career for Bulgaria from 1995 through to 2004 which saw him crowned as the World Champion at the 2004 World Championships in Sofia with his mixed pair partner Galina Lazarova. Following on from his career as an athlete, Marian moved into the coaching space which saw him undertake the role of national coach for the Vietnamese National Aerobics Team from 2006-2016. Marian is currently the coach of the Azerbaijan National Aerobics Team.

GA would like to thank Marian for coming out to Australia and working with our athletes as they try to qualify for the 2020 WCH and WAGC in Baku, Azerbaijan in May.

The second trial for selection to the Australian WCH/WAGC team will take place at Aerodynamix Gymnastics on Sunday 15th March – good luck to all athletes vying for selection.
